Request for Proposals (RFP): Train Station Interior Update

Project Title: Granby Train Station Interior Update

Project Location: Granby Train Station, Granby, Colorado

Project Budget: Up to $15,000 total.

Project Overview

The Town of Granby is looking for an artist or artisan to create custom one-of-a-kind furnishings for the interior of the train station. This project is about turning empty space into a functional landmark that celebrates our local history. We are looking for proposals for either a set of common tables and seating or a series of benches. These pieces shouldn't just be furniture; they should be works of art that take inspiration from Granby’s historical, agricultural, or railroad roots.

The Granby Public Art Committee will select one artist’s proposal from the submissions received.

Scope of Work

The Granby Train Station is currently undergoing a series of artistic updates to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Colorado in 2026. As part of this milestone, a new historical mural and a photography installation are already planned for the space. To complement these additions, the Town of Granby is looking for an artist or artisan to create custom one-of-a-kind furnishings for the center of the station.

We are looking for proposals for either a set of common tables and seating or a series of benches. These pieces should not just be furniture; they should be works of art that take inspiration from the historical, agricultural, or railroad roots of the area. The design needs to be tough enough for a public train station environment, utilizing high-quality, commercial-grade materials like steel, iron, or heavy wood that can handle daily use and frequent cleaning. Safety is a top priority, so all pieces must be sturdy, have no overly sharp edges, and leave plenty of room for people to walk through the station easily. The goal is to create something that feels like a piece of history but functions perfectly for modern travelers.

Project Timeline

• Proposals Due: June 14, 2026

• Selected Artist Notification: June 19, 2026

• Work Execution: To be completed in late summer/early fall of 2026. Specific dates will be determined between the Town and the selected artist.

Proposal Requirements

Please provide a brief response (PDF preferred) including the following:

1. Artist Information: Name, Grand County address, phone number, and email.

2. Experience: A brief summary of your experience with building furnishings and 5 photos of previous work.

3. Project Approach: A short description of your method for creating and your vision for making the furniture fit in with the theme of the train station.

4. Timeline & Availability: Confirmation of your ability to complete the work in the late summer or early fall of 2026.

5. Budget & Materials: A total fee for the project to include all labor, materials, and paint. Please provide a brief breakdown of labor vs. materials.
